Lab Philosophy….constantly improving

The tl;dr version of the Mukhopadhyay lab philosophy.

What you should expect from me?

My goal is to train you to become an outstanding scientist. When you leave the lab, you should have the tools and confidence to move on in any field of science. I will guide you on your scientific projects, initially very hands-on as you are getting started in the lab and less so as you become independent. We will publish manuscripts. We will present at conferences. We will interact with other scientists to learn more about science, professional development, career advancement, mental and physical well-being.

What lab members (including me) expect from you?

You will give 100%. You will develop ownership of your project over time. You will work both independently and collaboratively. You will read the literature. You will ask questions when you do not know something or something is not clear. You will be mindful of your mental and physical self and take care of yourself. You will provide feedback to others. You will be professional and respectful to others. You will enjoy your “science” and if you do not, you will let me know so we can redirect your projects.

What I have learned as a mentor?

Every person has something to contribute and something to learn. Every person learns differently. Every person has different goals. I am constantly learning how to be a better mentor and appreciate any feedback. Communication is key, I can read papers but I cannot read your mind.
